National Drive Electric Week 2017 in Nevada

National Drive Electric Week was staged internationally in 270 cities from September 9 – 17, 2017 by organizers from the Electric Auto Association, Plug-in America, and the Sierra Club.

Nissan was an international corporate sponsor for the event and provided educational material and product information, including new brochures about the 2018 Nissan LEAF electric car. Other NDEW sponsors included Lyft, ClipperCreek, and the California Air Resources Board.

Nevada events were coordinated in both Las Vegas and Reno by local owners of plug-in electric vehicles.

National Drive Electric Week in Las Vegas was staged at the Springs Preserve museum parking lot on Saturday, September 9th from 10 AM to 2 PM under a photovoltaic solar canopy that tracked the sun during the day and provided power to two ChargePoint stations, each with two SAE J1772 AC Level 2 ports.

Local supporting organizations included the Nevade Electric Vehicle Accelerator program from REA250.org, Las Vegas Electric Vehicle Association, Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter, Clean Energy Project, Citizens Climate Lobby, SolarNV, NV Energy, Green Alliance of Nevada, Las Vegas Tesla Owners, Verdek, and ChargePoint.

An electric car rally featured about 40 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and battery-powered electric vehicles from worldwide automotive manufacturers, including Tesla Roadster, Tesla Model S, Tesla Model X, Nissan LEAF, GM Chevrolet Volt, GM Chevrolet Spark EV, Ford Fusion Energi, Ford Focus EV, Fiat 500e, Daimler Smart ED, BMW i3, and Mitsubishi i-MiEV.

Informational booths provided educational outreach about electric vehicle technologies, EV infrastructure, and renewable energy resources available within Nevada.

NV Energy provided a demonstration trailer from the utility’s Renewable Generations program.

Walk-through trailer exhibits included a solar water heater system and electric generator systems for residential home applications that could be powered by both photovoltaic solar cell panels and a wind turbine.

Mark Larsen drove his Nissan LEAF from St. George, Utah to the Springs Preserve in Las Vegas and back over the weekend, chronicling his journey both ways, as well as his visit to the NDEW gathering: http://bit.ly/ndewvegas

Mark recharged his Nissan LEAF in Mesquite at the Eureka Casino and Hotel and when he arrived in North Las Vegas at the College of Southern Nevada campus. The distance from Mesquite to Las Vegas is about 80 miles.

It was staged on Sunday, Sept. 17th from 9 AM to 2 PM at the Pavilion on the west side of Virginia Lake Park, located at 1980 Lakeside Drive, Reno, NV 89509.

“We got featured on one of the local news shows (KOLO-TV – abc affiliate in Reno, NV) and they ran the segment at least twice,” said Cindy Ryan. “Also, US House of Representatives candidate, Rick Shepherd and his family came by and spent at least one hour.”
